Cost Guide

What custom storage costs in the GTA.

Most people want a number before they book anything. Here's an honest look at what custom closets, mudrooms and built-ins typically cost across Toronto, Halton Region and the west GTA — and what actually moves the price.

Typical price ranges

Ranges below are supply-and-install, in Canadian dollars, before HST. Every home is different — treat these as a starting point, not a quote.

Reach-in closet

$1,000 – $3,500

Standard bedroom or hallway closet with double hanging, adjustable shelving and a small drawer bank.

Walk-in closet

$4,000 – $12,000

Full perimeter build with drawers, shoe storage and hanging zones. Islands and glass fronts push toward the top of the range.

Mudroom / entry lockers

$3,500 – $9,000

Bench seating, open lockers, hooks and closed upper storage, finished with an integrated toe kick.

Laundry room

$3,000 – $8,500

Counter over the machines, uppers, a sink base and a tall pantry or drawer tower.

Home office built-in

$3,500 – $10,000

Desk, file storage and shelving built into the wall, sized to the room.

Media wall

$4,000 – $11,000

Floating shelving and cabinetry framing the TV, with display niches and lighting.

What moves the price

Linear feet

Price scales with how much wall you're covering. A 6-foot reach-in and a 16-foot walk-in use the same materials — there's just far more of it.

Drawers vs. shelves

Drawers are the single biggest cost lever. Each soft-close drawer box adds hardware and labour, where an adjustable shelf costs a fraction of that.

Doors and glass

Open builds are the most affordable. Adding doors, glass fronts or a slim shaker profile raises both material and finishing cost.

Height

Running cabinetry to the ceiling gains real storage but adds panels, crown detail and installation time.

Finish selection

Standard whites are the most economical. Woodgrains, textured melamines and specialty colours carry a premium.

Lighting and extras

Integrated LED, jewellery trays, pull-out hampers and valet rods are worth budgeting for separately.

How to stretch the budget

  • Trade drawers for shelves. Swapping a few drawer banks for adjustable shelving is the fastest way to bring a quote down without losing storage.
  • Leave it open. Skipping doors in a walk-in keeps everything visible and costs less.
  • Stay with a standard white. Nova White and similar finishes look clean in any room and are the most economical choice.
  • Phase the work. Start with the closet you use every day, then add the mudroom or laundry later.
